Gab and UblockOrigin

01/12/2026

In the past, I've encouraged non-'Pro' users to use the browser extension to block 'Sponsored' content and
other areas of the platform where undesireable content resides. However, what I've recently found might convince some to wait until after more upgrades are complete. I say this because, Gab can (and apparently does) detect if you are blocking 'Sponsored' content.

If I have 'Sponsored' content blocked, then access to post functions in groups is 'removed' and you cannot post to the groups until you turn off the extentsion and reload the group page to see the 'post' area.

Either this is intentional or it's a 'glitch' in the upgrade. At this point I'm going to go w/intentional, considering how badly Andrew wants new income streams.

Conclusion: If you're running an ad-blocker and access to 'normal' functionality disappears, I'd suggest turning off the blocker and reloading the page to see if that fixes the issue. If not, then it's most likely something Gab is doing on the back-end that caused the issue.

Just a heads up for those interested.
