Gab Bot Creation & Management
This post is in addition to a post recently made on Gab. ( Does Gab protect you from aggressive malicious bots? )
That being said, no I'm not scraping data from Gab and no I'm not building bots for Gab. What i am doing, is writing software in a new (to me) programming language and IDE (Gambas). It basically allows one to monitor the creation of new accounts, view and analyze their public information in a way so as to recognize patterns and bots as they're being created.
I answered the question posed in the Gab post with; 'well, yes and no'.
I then explained how Gab DOES protect users from bots that immediately drop malicious links into their 'bio/about' area of their profiles, how I confirmed their malicious payload links and their rate of creation on a time frame and how quickly Gab handles them once they confirm pattern/payload recognition.
Here's the 'no' part of the equation; there are still bots created that don't drop payload links into their profile 'bio' and start following newly created accts. in sequential order of creation. Some of them start spamming groups w/payload links in their posts. This is where admins/mods of groups take on some of the responsibility of removing/reporting user accts. that roam from group to group posting their spam links.
If you create a group on Gab, understand that you take on some of the responsibility for protecting your members from malicious content and people violating the TOS to some degree.
The software I'm working on:
